weight loss in first trimester of pregnancy?
I am working in a developing country while in my first trimester. I’m now almost 12 weeks and found I lost 15 pounds over the last 5 weeks. I haven’t had nausea, I have just been unable to eat the greasy, spicy food that is made here, and there are very few safe food choices here. I was overweight to begin with, about 185 lbs and 5’7″. I’m actually now at my more normal weight of 170, i actually feel good, no nausea or fatigue. I just get nauseated at the smell of cooking. At home I would be eating much better, but I’m here for 6 more weeks and want to be sure I’m not endangering the baby.
Here’s what I eat
an egg for breakfast,
boiled potatoes with powdered milk for lunch
powerbar and/or boiled green beans for dinner
pineapple and/or mango every day
I also snack on mixed nuts and crackers throughout the day.
Prenatal multivitamin, B6 and folic acid every day
What else should I do? I’ll be home and able to eat normally at about 18 weeks.
I wouldn’t worry about it as long as your baby is developing normally. I was overweight when I got pregnant, too and I lost weight (16 pounds) in my first trimester. The doctor wasn’t concerned. He said it happens sometimes. I didn’t have a lot of morning sickness either. I got pregnant while planning my wedding and I was really busy, so I guess I just didn’t eat much so I lost weight. Keep taking your vitamins, eating healthy and seeing your doctor as you should. Good luck and congrats!
